Peggy Alway is our Counselor/School Psychologist.  Peggy has a Masters of Science in School Psychology from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado. She has worked for 24 years in the public schools as a School Psychologist and Counselor.  The past sixteen years have been with Englewood Schools at Clayton Elementary, Charles Hay Elementary, Maddox Elementary and Bishop Elementary.  Peggy is a native Coloradan.  She lives in Parker with her husband and two children.
 
  Michael Carlson has a B.A. from Kalamazoo College and earned his graduate degree from the University of Colorado at Denver.  Mr. Carlson studied abroad in Costa Rica and in the summer of 2008, spent a month exploring Japan on a Fulbright-Hays fellowship, a study tour that was sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education.  He also has presented at the Colorado Council International Reading Association Conference on Literacy.  Mr. Carlson enjoys incorporating such life experiences into the classroom setting.

     Away from the classroom, Mr. Carlson likes to walk his dog, Wrigley, play and watch baseball, ski, learn new languages, and work on his house.

 


Ms. Koble received her undergraduate degree from North Dakota State University and her Master’s Degree from Minot State University in Speech/Language Pathology.  She taught one year in North Dakota.  She then moved to Colorado and began teaching in the Englewood School District.  She has taught at Cherrelyn Elementary, Bishop Elementary, Charles Hay Elementary, and Sinclair Middle School as a Speech/Language Pathologist.  While teaching, she continued her studies and passion for learning in the area of language and literacy.  Ms. Koble has been back at Charles Hay for the past 7 years as the Literacy Coordinator.  Ms. Koble says, “Seeing the look on a child’s face when they realize that they can read for the very first time is what it’s all about!”
 


Dr. Dale Lumpa is a physical education teacher at Charles Hay Elementary School in Englewood Colorado.  He has been a teacher and administrator in the elementary and middle school levels for over 22 years in districts in Missouri and Colorado.

Dale enjoys working with students, parents, and teachers in a P.E. program that focuses on individual fitness and nutrition.  Dales feels very fortunate to be a teacher and a father in a school that encourages children to learn life long skills through great programs before, during, and after school.  He continues to learn from students, teachers and parents ways to connect fitness and academics in all of his classes and clubs.

    Dale enjoys the outdoors, fitness, writing, and being with his two daughters.  Dale also enjoys the energy, commitment, and care that all that all people who work with children show everyday.

 
Laura Bredesen is our Special Education Teacher.  Laura received her undergraduate degree from Loretto Heights College in Denver, Colorado and her master's degree from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado.  Englewood Schools hired her in August 1983.  She has had experience from teaching regular education at the primary level to meeting the needs of the severely emotionally disturbed students.  Laura is originally from Bethesda, Maryland.  However, after numerous family moves, her family finally settled down in Englewood, Colorado in 1969.  Laura enjoys spending time with her nephew, family and friends doing various activities. 
 
Ms. Bradford has been teaching for 18 years. After earning her bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado in 1985 she taught 5th grade in Greeley for 3 years. After a quick 2 years in Cincinnati she moved back home to Colorado and began teaching in Englewood Schools. Ms. Bradford taught 4th and 5th grade for 7 years at Clayton Elementary then changed to Charles Hay where she has happily taught intermediate students for the past 8 years. During those teaching years she earned her master’s degree in literacy from the University of Colorado at Denver. Reading aloud to students is her favorite part of the day because, “there is so much good literature to choose from!”
 
Mary Beierl Charbonneau is a graduate of Loretto Heights College and the University of Colorado at Denver. Mary has worked at Charles Hay School Since 1975 - - literally her entire adulthood!

After living by a small park in Denver for 20 years, Mary and her husband Michael have moved to a mid-century modern home in Littleton. Un-cluttering has been a challenge as well as a welcome change.


Mary loves to teach, knit, read and travel to New Mexico.

 
Heather Fall has been teaching at Charles Hay for the past 9 years.
She has taught second grade and first/second grade multi-age, and 3rd grade. She received her Bachelors Degree from Fort Lewis College in 1999. Then went on to complete her Masters of Education in March of 2005. Mrs. Fall has a passion for teaching because she loves helping students gain knowledge and because she is a learner herself. So, being around learning just makes sense. In her free time she and her husband enjoy spending time with their daughter that was born in November of 2008.
 
Amanda Cook is our 1st grade teacher at Charles Hay this year. She received her BA from Metropolitan State College of Denver. Amanda is not new to Charles Hay, though. Last year she worked as an instructional paraprofessional and learned many new and exciting ways to teach literacy. Her favorite part of teaching is the excitement a student feels when they start to see themselves as a reader and a writer.

Outside of school Amanda enjoys reading and discovering new literature. She also enjoys spending time with her family and her three nephews.

 
Mrs. Grady received her undergraduate degree from Oklahoma Christian University and her Masters degree from the University of Central Oklahoma.  This is her 19th year of teaching.  Most of those years were in the Oklahoma City before moving to Englewood in November 2003.  Mrs. Grady has taught kindergarten, first, second, and third grades.  She, her husband, Albert and their son, Kaeden, are “SOONERS” at heart but love living in the Colorado area with their dogs Fudge and Snickers.  Mrs. Grady cherishes the opportunity to watch a child glow in their new learnings. Mrs. Grady recently became a lab teacher for the PEBC. One of the greatest accomplishments that Mrs. Grady has achieved was earning the title of National Board Certified Teacher in 2000. 
 
Erin Howard is a native of Colorado. She grew up in a small mountain town two hours west of Denver. Erin attended the University of Denver and received her undergraduate degree in Spanish. She lived in Spain for a year while attending the University of Sevilla, studying International Economics, and Culture and Civilization. Since her time in Spain, Erin has spent a lot of time in both Mexico and Costa Rica. Erin is our Spanish teacher and ELL teacher this year. She is excited to bring her experience in different cultures, and her passion for languages into the classroom! Erin attended the University of Colorado for her K-6 Elementary teaching license. She is currently finishing her Masters in Teaching the Linguistically Diverse. In her free time Erin likes to spend time in the mountains with family and friends, travel (of course!) and listen to live music.
 
Leah Meier received a B.A. from Metro State University.  She completed her student teaching here with Ms. Mary Brinks and was employed by the Douglas County School Corporation prior to her return to Charles Hay. 

She is married and has

two daughters, Kelsey and Kayla.

 


Nancy Weiss was

born in Connecticut, and migrated to Denver over thirty years ago.  She has divided her time between raising four children with her husband David and working in education.  Most of her career, Nancy has worked in the field of literacy.  She is happy this year to take on the role of coordinator for the IB Primary Youth Program at Charles Hay.  In this capacity she will help the staff of Charles Hay write curriculum, assess student learning, and encourage students to be compassionate and lifelong learners.  In her spare time, you might find Nancy running along the Highline Canal or off in a quiet corner reading the latest book club choice with a Lite Mocha Frappuccino.

This is Carrie O'Hara's first year of teaching and she couldn't be more excited to be here at Charles Hay with an opportunity to teach fourth grade.  Carrie received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Northern Colorado in Journalism and History.  In 2009 she received her teacher license from Metro State College of Denver.  Carrie is a Colorado native and loves to fish, camp, run, garden and read.
 
Thomas Ro
de is a Wyoming native and a 2001 graduate of the University of Wyoming with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. Currently he is attending UCD for a Master's degree in technology.

Between College and beginning his teacher career Mr. Rode spent time traveling overseas before coming to Colorado to start teaching. Mr. Rode is in his fourth year of teaching at Charles Hay Elementary. Mr. Rode co-sponsors several after school clubs including boys and girls basketball as well as the fitness club. When Mr. Rode is not in the classroom he enjoys skiing, snowboarding, traveling abroad, baseball, watching the Nuggets and Elvis.

 


You might recognize Marie Le Blanc since she did her student teaching her at Charles Hay with both Laura Bredesen and Heather Fall and is now a Metro State College graduate with a dual teaching license. She is certified in both Elementary Regular Education and Special Education. Marie is one of ten children. She enjoys reading, listening to music, traveling and cooking. Her favorite vacation was a trip to Paris, France with her two children and she hopes to visit Italy in the future.
 


Hannah LeCount was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and moved to Colorado with her husband in 2007.  She received her Bachelor's Degree from Bucknell University, and her Master's Degree

from Boston University.  She taught 3rd grade for two years before moving to Colorado.  Hannah loves  all of the outdoor activities that Colorado has to offer, and spends her weekends hiking, camping, skiing, snowshoeing,  and playing soccer.  She also loves to read, and spends much time relaxing with a good book.  One of her favorite things about teaching is helping children discover exceptional literature and develop a lifetime love of reading.

Katie Bond grew up in Littleton, Colorado and went to school at Colorado State University where she majored in English.  She moved to Breckenridge for 2 years where she was able to enjoy the majesty of our Rocky Mountains by playing in the great outdoors!  Ms. Bond loves to hike, backpack, camp, snowboard, snowshoe, bike, climb, and wakeboard.  After working at a Montessori pre-school in Breckenridge, Ms. Bond knew she had to get back to working with kids.  After moving back to Denver she went to school at Metropolitan State College of Denver to obtain a licensure in Elementary Education.  Ms. Bond had field experience in many different districts and grade-levels, including a 4th-5th Grade split room at Clayton here in Englewood.  Ms. Bond just finished her first year of teaching at North Middle School in Aurora where she taught 6th grade math, but is thrilled to be back working with Elementary students here at Charles Hay where she will be teaching 5th Grade.  Ms. Bond is excited to mix her passions with the passions of her students and explore!
 
Laura Bunting was born and raised in Michigan but has lived in Colorado for 10 years.  She received her undergraduate degree in Modern Languages with an emphasis in Spanish, a minor in Elementary Education, and her teaching license from Metropolitan State College.   In her free time Laura enjoys reading, practicing yoga, snowshoeing, playing in the mountains, and traveling.  She has traveled in almost all of the 50 states, Costa Rica, Mexico, Spain, British Columbia, and the Caribbean islands. 

Her favorite part of teaching is watching her students grow academically and personally.   She is excited to be teaching 3rd grade at Charles Hay this school year and looks forward to witnessing the growth and academic adventures of each student.

 
Libby Bucher, originally from Shelton Connecticut, received her bachelor's degree at Central Connecticut State University where she majored in Elementary Education and minored in Elementary Math/Reading. She moved to Colorado in 1993 and has lived here ever since. In 2000 she received her Masters degree from the University of Phoenix with the focus on the Diverse learning. She is currently attending Walden University and working on her PhD in educational leadership. She has taught kindergarten for 15 years, 9 of which have been in the Englewood School district.
