Service Learning
Service learning,
or community service,
is an essential
element of the
Charles Hay
character education
program.  Students are encouraged to understand others’ need and to find ways to help support the school, community and people of the world through various projects and activities.  A service learning activity may be as simple as putting up the
flags outside everyday, or as involved as
establishing as partnership with another school
or organization.

The program, Bully-Proofing, is in it’s sixth year.  The classroom curriculum educates all students

about bullying: what it is, what one can do if one is the victim of a bully, and what one can do if one sees another student being bullied.

Cougar Paws

This year the staff at Charles Hay wanted to find a way to recognize students who go that extra mile to help others and make our school a caring community.  In the front hall you will find a banner that says “Joining Paws for a Caring Community”.  When a staff member sees a student who is going above and beyond what is expected, the student will be given a “Cougar Paw” that will have their name written on it and

why they are receiving special

recognition.  Watch every

month in the Newsletter

for the names of

students who received

a “Cougar Paw”!!!
