Young
AmeriTowne
is a partnership between educators and business people. It is designed
to provide students with real-world skills. Fifth grade students are trained
in banking, basic economics, money management, and workplace skills. Students
have the opportunity to apply all they have learned by running a town
during a day-long field trip to Young Ameritowne, a life-like city with
sixteen different businesses.

Student
Council
The purpose of the Student Council is to help students learn about representative
government and the democratic way of operating in a large oranization. The
council is a way for students to be involved in the decision-making of their
school and also serves as an avenue for students to communicate and discuss
needs, concerns and new ideas. The Student Council will also lead the school
in community involvement-helping students to learn about civic duty.
Two representatives will come from each 3rd, 4th and 5th grade classroom.
Fourth and fifth grade reps will serve as officers of the Student Council.
These officers will be selected by the Student Council Coordinators. There
will be no campaigning or voting: hopefuls must write a letter of intent
which will be discussed at the first meeting. Third grade reps will have
the assignment of representing the primary grades and of reporting Student
Council information to each primary class.
At Cherrelyn Elementary our Student Council runs a school store that enables
them to have money for the variety of projects they elect to do. This school
store is open after school on Wednesdays from 2:45 to 3:15.
