Science Program

At Cherrelyn, we believe science instruction should engage students in hands on activities, build inquiry skills, promote positive attitudes towards science, develop problem solving skills, and a lifelong interest in the natural world. Here are some of the exciting things going on in our classrooms:

Kindergarten- Curious students have fun exploring plants, insects, and animals through books and hands on activities.

First Grade- Students are learning about the differences between plants and animals. A trip to the Denver Zoo ends their study.

Second Grade- Students are engaged in learning about dinosaurs and their fossils. They learn about the process of fossilization and how fossils are excavated. Their study includes a trip to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.

Third Grade- Electricity, magnets and simple machines are explored in third grade. Students create a product with a complex circuit that includes a light, battery and a homemade switch.

Fourth Grade- Students work on life science. They complete dissection of beans and eggs to learn the different parts and their functions. Students also keep up to date on current scientific events through Scholastic News.

Fifth Grade- Experiments are being conducted using the scientific method to learn about the systems of the human body.
