What
is Bully-Proofing?
| Cherrelyn students and staff have been taught how to keep bullying behavior out of our school and caring behavior in our school. The following information is some of what we have learned. |
| We all
have three rights: The right to be safe, respected and included. We have all agreed to follow these three things: 1. We will not bully others. 2. We will help others who are being bullied by speaking out and getting adult help. 3. We will use extra effort to include ALL students in activities at school. |

Here
is the difference between Telling and Tattling:
Telling Purpose is to keep people safe Important Harmful or dangerous Need help from an adult to solve Behavior is purposeful |
Tattling Purpose is to get someone in trouble Unimportant Harmless Can handle by self Behavior is accidental |
Our students have learned 6 strategies that they can use if they are involved in a bullying situation. |

Our saying to help remind us of these strategies is: HA-HA-SO H - help ( ex. "I need help!") A - assert yourself ( ex. Use a strong voice and say, "I don't like that.") H - humor ( Make a joke about yourself or the situation. Never make the joke about the bully.) A - avoid ( Stay away from the bully.) S - self talk ( Say nice things about yourself in your head to make yourself feel better.) O - own it ( Agree with the bully.) |
Our
goal is to have a school full of peaceful and caring students.
| Each classroom
has defined how a caring student behaves. In addition the 3rd, 4th and 5th
graders have been taught some strategies to use if they see someone being
bullied. We use the phrase CARES to help them remember these strategies. C - creative problem solving A - adult help R - relate and join E - empathy S - stand up and speak out |

As a staff we are working to recognize caring and peaceful behavior. Each classroom has designed their own Caring Kid necklaces. Students will receive one of these necklaces when they are "caught" behaving in a caring/peaceful manner. |
