Englewood offers grade level or subject level acceleration depending upon need.

Cluster grouping of like-ability students for depth and complexity in core subject areas.

Classroom teachers at all levels offer differentiated instruction to gifted students. Differentiation asks teachers to modify assignments by content, process, and/or product through readiness, learning preference, or interest. Teachers are currently being trained.

 
 

Elementary Schools
Half-Day Seminars:
Once a month the gifted and talented students in Englewood meet together for a half-day seminar. These motivating seminars vary in theme and topic, support advanced proficiencies of state standards, and provide high academic rigor. Most importantly they provide gifted students the opportunity for socialization with intellectual peers.

Service- Personal learning plans reflect the academic needs of gifted students. Gifted and talented instructors work with small groups weekly to support and accelerate their idea of giftedness.

Middle Schools
Extra Curricular activities are provided to promote academic and creative rigor as well as socialization with intellectual peers. Some of the activities provided include:

Writing Club
Students write in a variety of genres and share their writing with peers. Guest authors are brought in to share their own writing process with the students.

Book Club
Socratic Seminar method is used as participants seek deeper understanding of complex ideas through rigorously thoughtful dialogue.

• Beginning October 23rd in room 113 at Flood Middle School
(Will be reading the book Eragon by Christopher Paolini)

Provides rich learning experiences using a hands-on inquiry based approach that mirros the work of real scientists.

Students have opportunities to challenge each other, learn new strategies and participate in local tournaments.

Math Counts
Mathcounts® is a national math enrichment, coaching and competition program that promotes middle school mathematics achievement.

National Junior Honor Society
A service organization for high achieving students.

Destination Imagination is a problem solving competition. The purpose of DI is to teach creative problem solving strategies, teamwork, and life-long skills. Team challenges ask students to use art, technology, and performace in their solutions. These challenges build student confidence through commitment to task and group interaction.

• Teams are forming at each school
• Englewood Schools sent 8 teams to the South Metro Regional Tournament on March 17, 2007
• The team from ELA is advancing to the state tournament on April 28, 2007
• Team Charles Hay won the Spirit of DI award for displaying outstanding teamwork
• Team ELA won the Renaissance award for outstanding engineering and technical design
